Planting seeds for Imbolc

An indoor organic vegetable garden

Merry meet all,

Imbolc is officially here! While my garden is deep in snow. I know that now spring must surely be on its way. Imbolc is the first of the three spring Sabbats.

The moon was full and beautiful the other night. Now the moon enters its waning phase. Mercury is in retrograde until the 11th. Hold off on major commitments and travel plans until then. I try to not let it affect me.

Soon the seed catalogues arrive in the mail! Ask Brighid to honor and bless the seeds as you plant them, if you wish to start seeds in the seed trays indoors. I have started feverfew, sage and milk thistle from seed and they are growing quite well. I have transferred them to bigger pots. I brought my genovese basil in in the fall because I never meant to uproot it and it is growing quite well. I will put it out in the garden in the spring.

Gather a seed tray, soil, seeds, a spoon, and some newspaper. Lay out the newspaper to protect the surface from dirt. Spoon out soil into the seed tray and dampen the soil with water. Plant the seeds. As you plant the seeds, bless them with a chant or prayer. Go ahead and light a corresponding incense and candle if you wish and play some fairy music. Ask the faeries or your chosen deity to assist you with this project. Add a programmed clear quartz crystal to help the seeds germinate. Then set the seed tray on a stable surface and near a strong source of light such as a grow light or a south-facing window. Wait. Keep the soil moist but not too wet.

Or put the seeds in a damp paper towel or a coffee filter and then put all that in a damp ziploc bag. Wait for the seeds to germinate. This tests the viability of the seeds and hastens germinatiom. Once the seeds have sprouted, plant them in the soil. You may feel smug starting plants from seed. I usually do, because it is a truly magickal act when you see seeds sprout and grow into a beautiful plant. I love doing it. I love watching seeds sprout and grow.

Transfer the seedlings to larger pots once they have grown a set of second leaves. Water and keep them in the sun. You can plant anything and watching a plant grow and blossom is so much fun.

Let the candle burn down, thank your deities for assistance, and clean up the mess. Store your soil bag and everything you needed in a warm and easy to find again spot.

You are ready now for spring. While you are planting seeds, perhaps focus on your goals, dreams and wishes and what you hope to accomplish for 2015.

Blessed Be, Lady Spiderwitch )O(
