Ostara Goddesses and Gods

Crocusfrom garden

Merry meet all,

There are many ways you can celebrate Ostara. The Vernal Equinox is soon upon us. Although here in the maritimes, we are headed for another blizzard. I suspect March will roar out like a lion and not bleat like a lamb. But now is the time to learn more about Ostara.

Eostre is a goddess associated with flowers and spring time. Her name gives us the word, “Eostre” and the name of Ostara itself. Eostre made her first appearance in text 1300 years ago in the Venerable Bede’s Tempourm Rationale. She is named for a spring goddess the Anglo-saxons honoured in the spring. Some other popular deities are Freya (Norse), and Saraswati (Hindu).

Most fertility gods and goddesses would be honoured at this festive time of year. Spring is a magickal time. The Crone loosens her cold hold on the earth and finally spring blossoms appear. It is a time of celebration.

Blessed Be, Lady Spiderwitch )O(
